My name is Rosa María Fuentes Pozo. I was born in Cuba, where I graduated as a doctor in 1994 with a specialty in General Medicine 2004 and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 2008.

I have lived in the United States for 10 years. I am a registered nurse and Nurse Practitioner, I work in palliative care, I had never been sick, I had never had surgery, I had never been admitted to a hospital.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, I entered UM Hospital after having requested my discharge from Baptist Hospital (I was not treated well at Baptist and I decided to leave there as soon as possible). I arrived at UM Hospital on a stretcher, I could not walk due to pain, with a pathological fracture of L4 and a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. On October 25, 2024, I underwent surgery by the brilliant Dr. Evan Trapana, MD, Specialties Spine Surgery, and was discharged on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

The surgery was brilliant, amazing, wonderful. I followed all of Dr. Trapana’s instructions for the immediate and mid-postoperative period, including bracing, medications, and wound care. My recovery improved every day; my surgical wound was 100% healed. In November 2024, I was evaluated in consultation by my brilliant, talented, and amazing Dr. Benjamin Diamond, MD, Specialties Hematology Oncology, to begin treatment for Multiple Myeloma.

My treatment began under the direction of my talented and brilliant Dr. Diamond, always attentive to the adverse effects of the medications and acting very quickly when I needed help. Dr. Diamond’s team was there on the phone, responding quickly, along with his nurses Priscilla, Diana, and Geraldine, who were very kind, professional, and always willing to listen.

My illness is improving every day, thanks to the wise decisions in my treatment directed by Dr. Diamond. I attend all of Dr. Diamond’s appointments and follow his instructions. Now I can walk, drive, work, and be independent in my daily activities. Now I smile. THANK YOU TO DR. BENJAMIN DIAMOND.
